Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant documentation, policies and procedures

implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient completion of reaming including:

interpreting reaming data and determining an appropriate course of action

operating machine

operating ancillary equipment

attaching the reamer

using thread gauge and dressing slightly damaged drill stem threads

lubricating threads and other components

inspecting and cleaning equipment and checking for wear and tear

disassembling, cleaning, inspecting and reassembling reaming heads

works effectively with others to undertake and complete the conduct of reaming that meets all of the required outcomes including:

complying with written and verbal reporting requirements and procedures

communicating clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions

communicating clearly and concisely with others to resolve coordination requirements prior to commencing and during work activities

demonstrates completion of the conduction of reaming that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

selecting appropriate reaming tool(s)

connecting appropriate reamer

reaming/back reaming, adding/removing drill stem sections

monitoring and interpreting all gauge/dial readings

monitoring and interpreting drill fluid flow from both ends of hole

maintaining drill log and reports


Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge in conducting reaming through:

accessing, interpreting and applying the legislative, organisation and site requirements and procedures for:

work, health and safety

environmental issues

operating drill rig

housekeeping

identifying equipment characteristics, technical capabilities and limitations

identifying basic rock/geology types and their impact on HDD operations, including hard rock and scree

identifying the appropriate reamers for different geology types

understanding the principles of HDD

using the correct types of drill fluid, their uses and make up/adjustment procedures
